Travel and Destination App – Settings Page

2 month
2024

This case study explores the design and development of a settings page for a travel and destination mobile app. The goal was to create an intuitive, user-friendly, and efficient interface, enabling users to seamlessly manage preferences and account settings while ensuring accessibility and security.

Challenges

Key challenges included:

  • Balancing simplicity with functionality to avoid overwhelming users with options.

  • Ensuring accessibility through features like dark mode and adjustable text sizes.

  • Integrating robust security measures like two-factor authentication.

  • Designing a layout that supports seamless navigation across various sections.

Design Solution

User-Centered Research

To inform the design, I conducted a comprehensive benchmark analysis of settings pages from leading travel apps, including Booking, Airbnb, and Expedia. Key insights included:

  • Grouping settings into logical sections for clarity.

  • Incorporating visual aids like intuitive icons and labels for easy identification.

  • Prioritizing accessibility and security features to enhance usability and trust.

Layout and Features

Building on research, I developed a layout that categorizes settings into four main sections:

  1. Profile: Displays user details for quick access and editing.

  2. Settings: Includes categories like Personal Information, Payment Information, Login & Security, Accessibility, and Notifications.

  3. Support: Provides access to Help, Feedback, and Problem Reporting.

  4. Legal: Clearly organizes legal documents for transparency.

Prototypes for key sections, such as Payment Information, Login & Security, and Notifications, were meticulously designed to balance functionality with simplicity.

Dark Mode Compatibility

Given the increasing demand for dark mode, I ensured the design was fully optimized for both light and dark themes. This involved rigorous testing to maintain contrast, readability, and visual appeal across all modes.

Outcomes

The final design successfully addressed user needs, combining intuitive navigation, robust security features, and accessible design. The project deepened my understanding of balancing aesthetics with functionality and underscored the importance of iterative prototyping and user testing.
