Photography Portfolio (re)design

2 months
2023

This project involved the redesign of a photography portfolio for Rita Salgado, a Portuguese fashion photographer and photography enthusiast based in Barcelona. The redesign aimed to enhance the usability, visibility, and overall aesthetic of her portfolio, ensuring it effectively showcased her talent and professional work.

As a good friend and university colleague, Rita and I collaborated closely to reimagine her portfolio, building on the foundation of her existing website to create a more refined and user-friendly experience.

Challenges

The primary challenge was designing a portfolio that places full emphasis on Rita’s photography while maintaining a professional and seamless user interface. Another challenge was ensuring that the website was accessible to a diverse audience, particularly those in Barcelona, by including multilingual support.

Design Solution

To ensure that the focus remains on Rita's photographs:

  • Designed the layout to resemble an art gallery, showcasing her best work without distractions.

  • Used a minimalistic design with neutral colours and ample whitespace to let the photographs take centre stage.

  • Organized her projects into clear categories, allowing users to explore her portfolio intuitively.

To enhance functionality and usability:

  • Introduced an “About Me” page with a biography in both English and Spanish to cater to her Barcelona-based audience.

  • Included a downloadable CV and a detailed contact list for work inquiries.

  • Ensured the website was fully responsive and optimized for all devices, providing a seamless browsing experience.

Outcomes

The final design is a simple yet striking portfolio that effectively showcases Rita’s incredible talent. By combining clean aesthetics with essential features, the redesign provides a professional platform that elevates her work and connects her with her audience.
